Gavin Thomson, Peugeot 205 driver in Quaife Motorsport News Saloons, class C, age 33.

BARC SEC: OK green flags – lets go: how did your adventure with motorsport get started?
Gavin Thomson: I was surrounded by cars from a young age and was taken to Brands Hatch before I could walk. My Dad use to race on ovals regularly at Arena Essex while I was growing up. I started out quite late in 2002 when I built my first modified Peugeot 205. Basically when I had enough money to compete. Meeting Richard at Redline Tuning led to getting in to circuit racing in 2009.

BS: You're behind the wheel of your Peugeot 205. What is your dream racing car?
G.T.: Classic - Porsche 935. Modern - BMW M3 DTM.

BS: What is your dream motorsport event you want to take part in?
G.T.: 24h Le Mans.

BS: Hard braking now – are there any other sport disciplines you're familiar with?
G.T.: Growing up I played Rugby and Football. When I get time I enjoy mountain biking.

BS: Racing is on weekends – what are you doing weekdays?
G.T.: Raising enough money to go racing.

BS: Who are your motorsport and non-motorsport heroes?
G.T.: Ayrton Senna, Valentino Rossi & Bruce Lee.

BS: What are your expectations for 2014?
G.T.: 2012 season was such a big one winning the championship. In 2014 I will see how it goes. I would like to get the opportunity to try new things.

BS: Very tricky corner now – imagine there are no cars in the world, what would you do?
G.T.: Cry, then get a motorbike.

BS: And finish line – it's time for a drink. What's your favorite one?
G.T.: At the moment Coors Light. Jäger bombs for when things get messy.

BS: Thanks and good luck.
G.T.: A big thank you to my fiancé Anna, my Dad, Rich and the boys at Redline Tuning, Si, Tom and Punter.
