Robert Farndon, VW Golf GTI Mk 1 driver in Cannons TinTops Championship,
class T3, age 47.

BARC SEC: OK green flags – lets go: how did your adventure with motorsport get started?
Robert Farndon: I went to Brands Hatch (Race of Champions F1) when I was 16 as a spectator and was hooked on Motorsport! I raced Karts in the late 1980's. Spent a lot of time at Brands, as a spectator. With the support of my friends (Smith family - Quaife Intermarques), I decided to buy a race car and have a go myself!

BS: You're behind the wheel of your VW Golf. What is your dream racing car?
R.F.: A Mk 1 Golf GTI that finishes races! No, really, it has to be the Gulf-Porsche 917K Le Mans car, as driven by Steve McQueen in the famous film.

BS: What is your dream motorsport event you want to take part in?
R.F.: Le Mans in the Gulf-Porsche!

BS: Hard braking now – are there any other sport disciplines you're familiar with?
R.F.: Cricket - I played cricket to County level (Essex under 18's). Golf - I used to play before Motorsport took over my life! I have bronze and silver medals in Latin/American and Ballroom dancing!!! (a long time ago).

BS: Racing is on weekends – what are you doing weekdays?
R.F.: I am in partnership with my brother in a Landscape Gardening firm. The rest of my time is spent repairing and upgrading the golf. Racing Pro-Karts with my brothers around my parent's field.

BS: Who are your motorsport and non-motorsport heroes?
R.F.: Motorsport - the late, great, Ayrton Senna. Non-Motorsport -my wife and daughter (who occasionally see me come in for meal times from the garage!)

BS: What are your expectations for 2013?
R.F.: My expectations were to complete as many races as possible and work my way up the grid. I now, after completing substantial upgrades on the suspension / handling, have to build a new bottom end , which I hope will finally make the old car reliable and more competitive.

BS: Very tricky corner now – imagine there are no cars in the world, what would you do?
R.F.: Play golf. Spend a lot more time with my family. Walk.

BS: And finish line – it's time for a drink. What's your favorite one?
R.F.: Vodka and Coke or an Ice Cold Beer.

BS: Thanks and good luck.

Robert Farndon
