BARC SEC: OK green flags – lets go: how did your adventure with motorsport get started?
Rod Birley:My father took me to Brands Hatch in August 1965 to see the bank holiday event. It rained.

BS: You're behind the wheel of your Ford Escort WRC. What is your dream racing car?
R.B.: I have been lucky enough to race over 50 different cars. Would like to try an Aussie Ford V8.

BS: What is your dream motorsport event you want to take part in?
R.B.: Either Bathurst 1000 or something at Road America.

BS: Hard braking now – are there any other sport disciplines you're familiar with?
R.B.: Ice hockey, cycling, athletics and rugby.

BS: Racing is on weekends – what are you doing weekdays?
R.B.: Selling tools.

BS: Who are your motorsport and non-motorsport heroes?
R.B.: Jim Clark, the best all round driver. Andy Rouse who is a very good engineer. Yuri Gagarin, first man in space and Isambard Brunel the civil and mechanical engineer.

BS: What are your expectations for 2013?
R.B.: To make sure my car is reliable and have fun.

BS: Very tricky corner now – imagine there are no cars in the world, what would you do?
R.B.: Cycling.

BS: And finish line – it's time for a drink. What's your favorite one?
R.B.: J2O (currently apple/raspberry flavour).
